Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception (SCIC)


Founded in Saint John, New Brunswick in 1854 by Honoria Conway and Bishop Thomas Louis Connolly, to care for poor immigrants and the children orphaned by the cholera epidemic.

Traditional ministries were education, health care and social services. Present ministries include (besides the traditional ministries):

  • parish ministries
  • pastoral care
  • advocacy for the poor and marginalized
  • marriage tribunal
  • counseling
  • spiritual direction

In the Archdiocese, our apostolic works include:

  • health care
  • pastoral care, including mission education
  • teaching
  • counselling
  • RCIA
  • volunteer work
