History

Catholic Charities Men’s Shelter, previously Catholic Charities Men’s Hostel, began our mission on the third floor of the Vancouver Archdiocese offices, following the orders of Archbishop Johnson who formed a committee in October 1958. The Men’s Shelter was opened 13 months later in November of 1959.

Since opening over 60 years ago, our emergency Shelter Ministry has grown significantly in many ways. We now provide a safe place to sleep, nutritious meals, showers, clean clothing, and help with a wide range of needs, including IDs, education, employment, healthcare, mental health, housing, and connections to resources and peer service providers for over 100 men every day all over the Vancouver metro region.

We have over 30 full-time and part-time staff positions with our shelter and often have positions available. If you are curious or interested, please visit the job opportunities page.
