Migrant Farm Worker Ministry

Volunteer

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me…whenever you did for one of these least of mine, you did it for me.” - Matthew 25:35-36, 40

Why do we serve the Migrant Farm Workers?

In a Christ-like manner, volunteers of the Migrant Farm Worker Ministry are focused on the farm worker community to ensure pastoral care is provided while they reside and work in the Lower Mainland.

The volunteer parish teams provide opportunities for the celebration of the Eucharist in Spanish, Sacrament of Reconciliation, Bible study, the recitation of the Rosary, prayer groups and other activities that can accommodate the farm workers’ busy schedules. The Migrant Farm Worker Ministry also provides practical assistance in the form of transportation, bicycles, clothing, and other items when needed.

Persons who are 18 years of age and older and are willing to be of service.

Migrant Farm Workers are separated from their families for many months at a time. Many are lonely and feel isolated as they work and live in the shadows of their society. Volunteers help them to know that they are part of the Church, that they are not alone, and that God and the Blessed Mother are with them.

“I would like the Church to help us with talks, formation, the Rosary, and spiritual support. I would like to meet with the community here in Langley, with people from the Church.” - Ricardo, farm worker

Since migrant farm workers are considered vulnerable, volunteers must be cleared through the safe environment program which involves references and background checks. Training will be provided.
