Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Instructors: Level I Training

Susan Perna

Susan is a founding member of the board for the Catechesis of The Good Shepherd Association of Canada (CGSAC). She began her journey with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd over 35 years ago and has been trained by its founders. She opened and directed the atrium at St Benedict Parish, Toronto for 20 years, serving hundreds of children and has been instrumental in opening more atria across Canada. She delights in training adults to become catechists knowing that each adult trained means that even more children will have the chance to experience this work. She currently assists at Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption atrium in North Bay, ON.

Nancy Wood

Nancy is a recognized formation leader by the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Association of Canada (CGSAC) and has given numerous formation courses. She is Montessori trained and has a MA in Pastoral Ministry from St. John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota. She established the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in Winnipeg, Manitoba and has been working in this method for more than 20 years.


Instructors: Level II Training

Dr. Debbie Zeni

Deb enjoys serving as a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd certified catechist and formation leader. She has worked in several atria since 1992 and lead courses across Canada and in Nairobi, Kenya. Deb received her MDiv (CGS) from Aquinas Institute, St. Louis and is currently taking her Doctorate in Ministry. She was a board member of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Canadian Association (CGSAC) for many years. She is a family physician and serves as a catechist at Holy Rosary Parish, Guelph, ON.

Carolyn-Marie Petch

Carolyne-Marie was first introduced to CGS in the fall of 1983 and quickly became involved in making materials for atria. She is a volunteer in her parish atrium in Toronto and is certified in all three Levels of CGS as a catechist and is a recognized formation facilitator. Carolyne-Marie has received her CGS training in Toronto, the USA and in Rome and continues personal formation in CGS. She has been instructing others in CGS since 1998.


CGS Coordinator

Murita Chua

Murita Chua is a Coordinator for the Ministries and Outreach Office in the Archdiocese of Vancouver. As an Archdiocesan coordinator, she is very knowledgeable about all children’s ministries as follow: Parish Religious Education Program (PREP); Liturgy of the Word with Children (LWC) and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). She has been training catechists for 15 years and in addition, her source of joy is being with the children as a volunteer catechist in CGS, PREP and LWC. Murita has more than 25 years of experience as a catechist and currently manages two CGS atria, one at St. Patrick’s Elementary School and at St. Francis of Assisi Parish. She has a Master’s Degree in Religious Education, completed CGS levels 1 -3 training and is currently a Formation Facilitators in Training (FFIT) for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Association of Canada (CGSAC).
