Research Visits
The main function of the Archives is to serve the Archdiocese of Vancouver and its employees. Its secondary function is to assist authorized researchers by making available the records which have been designated as available for their use.
All requests for appointments must be made in writing, addressed to the Archivist and delivered by post or e-mail. All research visit requests must also include at least one letter of reference either from a parish priest, or institution that the individual represents or is researching on behalf of. The Archives asks that one copy of any publication created be donated to the Archdiocesan Archives.
Archival material is accessible in the Archives only. Exceptions are at the discretion of the Archivist or the Chancellor.
Black and white photocopies are $0.25/ea and colour photocopies are $0.50/ea. No flash photography is allowed in the Archives. Digital scans are available at $1.00/ea and can take up to two working weeks to complete. For larger-sized files, researchers must provide a device on which to place the scan. Such scans are available only at the discretion of the Archivist.
In some cases the Archdiocese of Vancouver Archives does not own the copyright to material it has in its collection and it is therefore the responsibility of the researcher to secure copyright.
In cases where the Archdiocese of Vancouver Archives holds copyright to records, including photographs, the researcher must credit the Archdiocese of Vancouver Archives. Photographs may appear watermarked.
