Daughters of the Church — Lay Women Living in the World Consecrated to God
Founded in Vancouver, B.C. in 2001, we are a group of Catholic lay women each of whom has made a private vow of lifelong chastity to express total consecration to God. We have discerned the calling to be consecrated women living singly in the world. We are in the process of forming a stable and continuing association in the Church. We are not a religious congregation or order. We place ourselves under the authority of our Archbishop and spiritual director in order to grow with and in the Church in fidelity to the Magisterium. We are gradually evolving through reading spiritual and Church documents. We have published our foundational document approved by Archbishop Miller.
Our charism is to love God and neighbour purely and single heartedly in the midst of the world and in the heart of the Church. We understand ourselves to be a “hidden leaven” of consecration and prayer life within the Church. We welcome women of 30 years or older (single, widowed, annulled marriage).
Currently we have a community of 15 women and one Associate Member. Two of our earlier members have passed away. One earlier member has become a cloistered oblate of St. Benedict in the Abbey of St. Walburga, Virginia Dale, Colorado. In addition there are another 8 women who have taken a private vow but are unable to participate in regular meetings.
We maintain friendships with many individual religious sisters and communities throughout British Columbia. We have special spiritual links to the St. Clare’s Monastery, Mission, B .C., the Teresian Carmelite Missionaries, Vancouver, B.C., the St. Joseph’s Carmelite Monastery, Armstrong, B.C., and to the Marian Servants of Hope, White Rock, B.C.
Our community meets monthly in person at Immaculate Conception Church, Vancouver, on the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Immaculate Conception Church is located at 3778 West 28th Ave., Vancouver, B.C. V6S 1S6. We pray together each week via zoom meetings. Our spiritual director is appointed by the Archbishop of Vancouver.
