Archbishop Miller’s Lunar New Year Message

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

As we welcome the Lunar Year of the Dragon, I extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt prayers to all those celebrating this auspicious occasion. The Lunar New Year is a time of joy and renewal deeply rooted in the rich traditions of Asian cultures. It offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the blessings of the past year and to look forward with hope to the year ahead.

The Christian tradition likewise emphasizes the need for personal renewal and transformation. The dragon, a symbol of strength and good fortune in many Asian countries, can remind us that we are called to embody courageous strength in our spiritual lives. Just as the dragon is considered a protector, we too should be guardians of our faith, upholding truth, compassion and justice in our lives.

This year, as we celebrate the Year of the Dragon, let us remember the importance of community and family, values that are cherished both in Asian cultures and in our Catholic faith. Let us also seek to build bridges of understanding and solidarity across different cultures, recognizing the beauty and wisdom that each tradition brings to our shared human experience.

As you gather with family and friends to celebrate the Lunar Year of the Dragon, may you be blessed with good health, peace, and joy in the Lord. May this new year be filled with God’s grace, guiding you to embrace greater love of neighbour, understanding and harmony in our troubled world.

With cordial greetings and invoking the Lord’s blessing upon you and your families, I remain

Sincerely yours in Christ,

 J. Michael Miller, CSB
