What’s new for 2015

Thanks to the generous donation from the Archbishop’s dinner we can now print booklets to extend the Way of the Cross for Migrant Workers prayer service to more parishes.

Join us for a special reflection on migrants and their current plight at the “Way of the Cross for Migrant Workers.” Many of us are Migrants and we will especially pray for those who have recently arrived, are temporary or seasonal workers who often find themselves alone. These special Lenten services will be held at different parishes throughout Lent all over the lower mainland.

For the past 2 years the Service and Justice office hosted a “Way of the Cross for Migrants” prayer service at the Holy Rosary Cathedral hall during the Lenten Season. It was hosted on a Sunday afternoon. While we had many migrant workers in attendance we heard feedback from many that it wasn’t easy for them to take time off to attend that one event.

So changes for 2015

The leadership team made up of parish leaders who support temporary foreign workers and migrants met and discussed the situation and decided that we would decentralize the “Way of the Cross for Migrants” prayer service. It will now be hosted in more parishes to ensure better access for our temporary foreign workers and migrant workers. This committee also agreed that it would, wherever possible, coincide with the regular “Way of the Cross” prayer service offering at parishes so not only would be have our temporary foreign and migrant workers in attendance but other parishioners who would regularly attend their parish Way of the Cross prayer service. We felt that this was a great opportunity for all to learn more about the plight of the migrant workers and pray in solidarity with them. We are now working with many parishes and their parish representatives and will post a schedule shortly with prayer service times and dates.
