About this Event

Several parishes in the Archdiocese of Vancouver have begun offering parish-based mental health ministries, led by trained parishioners who provide compassionate accompaniment, increase awareness of mental health issues, and help reduce stigma in the parish community.

Parish mental health ministry is not group therapy or clinical support. It is a ministry of presence, listening, and accompaniment, helping create parish communities where people experiencing mental health challenges and their families know they are not alone.

This online information session is for parishioners who may be interested in learning what a parish mental health ministry looks like, how it begins, and what support and formation are provided by the Archdiocese. Attending the session does not commit you or your parish to launching a ministry immediately.

This ministry may be a good fit for parishioners who are mature in their faith, compassionate, good listeners, discreet, trustworthy, and open to formation and working as part of a small team. Participants are not expected to be counsellors or therapists.
