World Marriage Day – Feb. 9, 2020
“The union of man and woman in marriage [is] a unique, natural, fundamental and beautiful good for persons, communities, and whole societies.” Pope Francis
The Archdiocese of Vancouver set Strengthening Marriage and Family as one of its Priorities and Goals. One simple way we can all help to move this priority and goal forward is to celebrate with those who have made the life long commitment to sacramental marriage. February 9, 2020 is World Marriage Day, which honors husband and wife as the foundation of the family, the basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married life.
Married couples, you are invited to “take some time to celebrate World Marriage Day by doing a ‘Relationship Check’ with your spouse. Get away from the kids, from work, from the house and ask, ‘How are we doing?’. Imagine your relationship as a separate entity (a tree is a good image). Step back from it and assess its health together.” (Relationship Check-In)
“Married life, furthermore, has to be renewed each day. As I said before, I prefer wrinkled families, with wounds, with scars, but that continue going forward because these wounds, these scars, these wrinkles are the fruit of fidelity in a love that was not always easy. Love isn’t easy. It isn’t easy. No. But the most beautiful thing that a man and a woman can give each other is true love, for a lifetime.” Pope Francis
