This year’s theme is “Anointed”. At Baptism, we are all anointed and we become indelibly marked as a member of the body of Christ, who is Priest, Prophet and King. This unites us as a community of believers who are called to holiness and to spread the Gospel to all. Our anointing at both Baptism and Confirmation gives us the strength to go out and be active members of the Church. We turn to the lives of the saints before us to inspire us to be missionary disciples in our everyday lives.

FEATURING

APeX Ministries

APeX is two Catholic men (Brad Farmer and Gene Monterastelli) who have made it their lives’ work since 1996 to criss-cross North America sharing the Truth and Joy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They have crafted a unique style (they call it “Christian Vaudeville”) that engages an audience and creates rapport through death-defying juggling, sketch comedy, and personal testimony. In other words, they are evangelists, they throw things at each other, and they are funny.

Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB
Archbishop of Vancouver

Archbishop Miller will give a special address to all Grade 7 youth. He’ll also be a part of some other engaging bits throughout the program.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do chaperones have to pay to get into Spirit Day?
Yes, chaperones do need to pay the $50 registration fee.

How do I register my child for Spirit Day?
We only accept group registrations for Spirit Day to ensure that the mandatory minimum chaperone-to-youth ratio of 1:8 is met. This is for the safety and all youth attending. So, for example, if you have 8 youths who want to attend, you will need at least 1 adult chaperone (someone who is responsible for the group and is 19+ years of age).  If you have 9 -16 youth, you will need to register another adult chaperone to stick to the 1:8 ratio.  It is possible to register a minimum group size of 1 chaperone and 1 youth.

Does Spirit Day typically fill up/sell out?
It looks like the Saturday event will be filling up soon, so get your registration forms and payment in as soon as you can so you won’t be disappointed! (Don’t forget that the t-shirt order deadline is Monday, October 23, 4:30 p.m. Any registrations and t-shirt orders submitted after that date/time will not be given an event t-shirt.)

Is a t-shirt included in the registration fee?
Event t-shirts are only given to those who register prior to the Monday, October 23rd t-shirt order deadline.

How do I pick up my Group Registration Kit (nametags and t-shirts)?
All registration packages will be ready for pick-up at the following times:

Friday, November 3, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, November 4, 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Sunday, November 5, 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

What if I can’t have gluten? Will there be a special meal available for me?
At this time, we are only able to offer a vegetarian and a regular (no dietary restriction) lunch/snack. All food will be nut-free. If you or someone in your group has any dietary restrictions, we ask that they bring their own lunch and snacks. A place to hold your food will be provided (no refrigeration or heating up of food is available).

You can only register for this event with a group. Please contact your parish PREP Coordinator, Grade 7 PREP teacher, elementary school principal or Grade 7 teacher to register.

Do participants need to show proof of vaccination for this event?

At this time, we are not requiring proof of vaccination for admission to the In-person event at Chandos Pattison Auditorium.

Livestream sites will have their own COVID safety protocols. Please contact your school/parish/group contact for their specific protocols.

What COVID-19 Safety Protocols will be in place at Chandos Pattison Auditorium?

The following protocols will be in place:

  • • Everyone must wear a mask
  • • Encouraging physical distancing (we will be dependent on the Chaperones to help the youth follow the instructions of the Spirit Day Ushers)
  • • We are limiting the number of participants in attendance at the event to allow for physical distancing
  • • Staggered entrance/release of participants from the auditorium
  • • Hand sanitizing stations

Will a livestream link be sent out to individual participants?

Livestream links will only be sent from the Ministries and Outreach office to Group Contacts. If you will be watching Spirit Day from home, you will receive the link from your Group Contact.

What if I register my group to attend in-person at Chandos Pattison Auditorium, but find out some (or all) of the participants in my group are unable to attend in person? Can they still watch via livestream at home?

Yes, if any participants are no longer able to attend in-person, we encourage them to watch from home. Group Contacts are responsible for sending them the link to the livestream. We encourage the group contacts to let us know ASAP if they are switching any participants to the livestream option (this will help in our planning leading up to the event).

Will there be a meal served at Spirit Day?

There will be no meal served at Spirit Day. However, a snack is included in the registration fee and will be distributed to all participants (both those in-person at Chandos Pattison Auditorium, and those viewing via livestream)

We recommend that all participants have a good lunch before they head to Spirit Day and be aware that dinner may be later than usual. If you think a light snack will not hold you over, please feel free to bring extra snacks. No food will be allowed in the Chandos Pattison Auditorium, but there will be a place to store snacks; there will be no place to refrigerate or heat up snacks.

How do I get the registration package for my group?

Group contacts should refer to the event information that will be sent once your group’s registration is completed (form submitted and fees paid). For now, we can say that it will be the Group Contact’s responsibility for distribution of the t-shirts and snacks to the participants in their group.

Pick up of the group registration packages will be as follows:

  • • Thursday, March 3, between 9:00am to 4:30pm at the John Paul II Pastoral Centre, Vancouver
  • • OR Friday, March 4, between 6:30pm to 9:00pm at Chandos Pattison Auditorium, Surrey
  • • OR Saturday, March 5, between 9:30am to 1:00pm at Chandos Pattison Auditorium, Surrey

What colour are the t-shirts this year?

The shirts for participants will be maroon.

Will APeX and WAL be live and in-person at Chandos Pattison Auditorium?

Yes, we do plan on having APeX and WAL live and in-person at Spirit Day 2022!

Do we need to have a 1:8 chaperone to youth ratio at our parish/school if we are livestreaming?

Each parish/school livestream site will be responsible for their own supervision plan as per their parish/school policy. Thus, the Ministries and Outreach Office is only requiring the 1:8 chaperone to youth ratio at the event at Chandos Pattison Auditorium.
