The Catholic Perspective on Palliative & Pastoral Care

This interactive and engaging workshop is intended for those involved in visiting the sick, those who work in health care or hospice care, clergy and others interested in learning about palliative care.

Our presenters are Dr. Romayne Gallagher; a palliative care physician speaking on “live as well as you can for as long as you can”; Mr. Philip Murray, a spiritual health leader and educator with Fraser Health on “the impact of attentive and compassionate care when visiting the sick” and others. The workshop facilitator will be Stacy Rhodes-Nesset, RDH, MTHh.


Basics of the Faith – Part I

The Catholic Faith is true and beautiful, but many have yet to discover its riches. Part I explores the Creed and Sacraments, two of the four pillars of our Faith.

Fr. Anthony Ho is pastor of Precious Blood Parish in Cloverdale. Madonna House is a Catholic community dedicated to poverty, prayer, and hospitality.

Basics of the Faith is a required course for completion of a Catechetical Certificate.


Leadership Skills for Ministry

Full-Day – 10:00am – 4:00pm

This course will discuss servant leadership and how it can transform your parish community. It will also provide an opportunity to discover how to grow your communication, facilitation, and people skills for effective ministry. Come, learn and apply the principles to any ministry in which you are involved.

Emil Canlas (PhD Educational Management, MA Christian Formation Education) is a College Seasonal Instructor and Director of Admissions and Records at St. Mark’s and Corpus Christi College.


Serving the Liturgy from Behind the Scenes

Sacristans and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion provide a vital service but often go unnoticed. What does the Church have to say about these ministries? Come learn about the responsibilities and discover how there quiet roles integrate with the liturgy.

 Fr. Tien Tran is the Director of the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission and Pastor of St. Matthew’s Parish, Surrey.


Liturgy of the Word with Children Orientation and Training

Full Day: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

This course is a must for all novice presiders as well as a wonderful refresher for other team members.  It is a practical, step-by-step course that will assist you in preparing the Liturgy of the Word with Children.  We will discuss planning and implementation of Children’s Liturgy, the elements of the ‘Liturgy of the Word’, and some fun and creative presentation techniques.  It is a hands-on course with opportunities to try things out yourself.

Leanne Penco is the Liturgy of the Word (LWC) Consultant for the Archdiocese of Vancouver.

Discovering the Gospels is a required course for completion of a LWC Catechetical Certificate.


Beginning Catechist Training

Full Day: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Explore the noble vocation of the catechist and learn, in a “hands-on” way the basic methods and tools every catechist needs. Topics include: lesson planning, basic classroom management, learning styles and stages of development.

Murita Chua is the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) Consultant for the Archdioceses of Vancouver.

Beginning Catechist Training is a required course for completion of a PREP Catechetical Certificate.


More Than Just Fun and Games: Youth Ministry 101 Redux

Want to bring your parish youth ministry to life?  Come to our new and improved Youth Ministry 101 course and see how a comprehensive youth ministry can be an integral part of parish life.  We’ll explore the brand new youth ministry document released by the CCCB called “You Give Them Something to Eat” and show you how it can be used in planning your parish youth ministry.  This course is for all youth ministry leaders, ranging from the brand new to the most experienced.

Clayton Imoo (Director) and Erwin Fung (Consultant for Youth Ministry) both work in the Youth and Young Adult Ministry Office of the Archdiocese of Vancouver.


Introduction to RCIA – Part I

Presenter: Patrick Gillespie
Full Day: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Why the RCIA? What is it? This course will provide participants with a foundational understanding of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Particular attention will be given to the role of liturgy in drawing adults to Jesus Christ and his Church.

Introduction to – Part I is a required course for completion of a RCIA Catechetical Certificate.
