Dialogue with Evangelical Churches

What does it mean for the Catholic Church to dialogue with Evangelicals? What are the beliefs of Evangelical Christianity? Explore the past and current on-going dialogue on the international and local level, and learn how to grow in mutual understanding with our ecumenical friends.

Fr. Martin Moser, OMI is pastor of St. Peter’ Parish in New Westminster, a member of the RCAV Commission for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations, and professor of theology at St. Mark’s College.

The Cornerstone of Our Faith: Basics of the Faith – I

The Catholic Faith is true and beautiful, but many have yet to discover its riches. Part I explores the Creed and Sacraments, two of the four pillars of our Faith.

Angie Dee, M.A. Theology, is a parishioner at St. John’ the Apostle and St. Anthony of Padua will co-present with Kay O’Shea from Madonna House, a Catholic community dedicated to poverty, prayer and hospitality.

Basics of the Faith is a required course for completion of a Catechetical Certificate.

Confronting Questions on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity

Many young people in schools, parishes and communities claim to have gender identity disorder. How will you face the issue to support and guide them? How would you answer the question: “Where does the Church stand on issues of sexual orientation and gender identity?” Learn how to dialogue with the young people, your co-workers, neighbours and family members about this hot topic, without raising your voice. Catholic voices will guide you through defending your faith.

Peter Nation is the coordinator for Catholic Voices Academy, Canada and a parishioner at St. Edmund’s Parish.

Half-Day – 10:00am – 12:30pm

Involve your team in leadership and your parish ministry will have a much better chance of growing! This workshop will help parish leaders recruit, train, and support ministry volunteers. Learn how to reach out to new potential leaders, keep them on board and stay.

Clayton Imoo (Associate Director) and Erwing Fung (Coordinator) work in the Ministries and Outreach Office of the Archdiocese of Vancouver. They have over 40 years of combined ministry experience, primarily in youth ministry.

A Hand’s On Course for Leading Children’s Liturgy: LWC Orientation & Training

Presenter: Leanne Penco
Full Day: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

This practical, step-by-step course that will assist you in preparing the Liturgy of the Word with Children (LWC). Learn how to plan and implement of Children’s Liturgy, the elements of the ‘Liturgy of the Word’, and some fun and creative presentation techniques. A hands-on course with opportunities to try things out yourself. This course is a must for all novice presiders as well as a wonderful refresher for other team members.

Leanne Penco is the Liturgy of the Word (LWC) Consultant for the Archdiocese of Vancouver.

Discovering the Gospels is a required course for completion of a LWC Catechetical Certificate.

Introduction to RCIA – Part II

Presenter: Jane Waldock
Full Day: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Building on Part I, this course will explore the Church’s role as “mother and teacher’: how she nurtures and instructs participants in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The pastoral component of Christian initiation will be addressed through topics such as conversion to Christ, the RCIA team, sponsors, and marriage issues.

Jane Waldock has been involved in various aspects of RCIA ministry in BC and Ontario for over 15 years. She is the Director of Religious Education at St. Nicholas parish and is currently involved in the formation of the Archdiocese of Vancouver RCIA Leaders’ Network.

Introduction to RCIA – Part I is a required course for completion of a RCIA Catechetical Certificate.

A Practical Guide to Being a Catechist: Beginning Catechists Training

Course No: F707
Presenter: Murita Chua & Patricia Goldsmith
Full Day: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Are you a new Catechist? Or simply need a refresher course? This course explores the noble vocation of the catechist and offers basic methods and tools needed to facilitate effective catechetical formation in the classroom. Topics include: lesson planning, basic classroom management, learning styles and stages of development.

Murita Chua, M.A. Religious Education, is the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) & Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Vancouver, to be assisted by Patricia Goldsmith, a seasoned catechists at St. Francis de Sales Parish in Burnaby.

Beginning Catechist Training is a required course for completion of a PREP Catechetical Certificate.
