ELSA is English Language Services for Adults. The ELSA program is free for all sponsored refugees.

ELSA classes are programmed to help newcomers to:

  • Learn every day English
  • Develop employment skills
  • Use a computer
  • Learn about Canadian culture and history
  • Make friends with other newcomers

There are a variety of classes that are offered to accommodate different individuals:

  • Level 0 – 5
  • Full time 25 hours per week
  • Part time 9 – 15 hours per week
  • Morning, Afternoon or Night

For a sponsored refugee to enroll in ELSA they must

  • Present their Confirmation of Permanent Residency also known as Record of Landing which was received at the Port of Entry
  • Be 17 years old or older
  • Undergo an Assessment

Language Assessment Testing centres also provide more information about ELSA classes. To make an appointment for an assessment or for more information contact one of the following:
