PJ is a Registered Clinical Counsellor, and a Canadian Certified Counsellor having received his Master of Education degree in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University. PJ works both as a family therapist at the Child and Youth Mental Health program with the Government of British Columbia, and as one of the co-founders of Lifted Counselling and Consulting.
PJ’s clinical practice is informed from both interpersonal-process and family systems approaches, while he also helps families employ skill-based strategies through thoughtful integration of the theoretical foundations and principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Emotion Focused Family Therapy. PJ provides individual, group, couple, and family treatment, and has specific expertise in working with high-risk youth and families experiencing concerns such as suicidality, self-harm, impulsivity, emotional deregulation, depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, and addictions (sexual addictions, pornography, and substance use).
As a skilled speaker and an active member of the global community, PJ has presented at numerous forums, workshops, and conferences locally, nationally and internationally providing skill-based trainings for parents, teachers, counsellors, and health care professionals. PJ is deeply committed to family life with his wife and four children, active in parish life, and also serves on the boards of the Catholic Psychotherapy Association of Canada.
