Vancouver Archbishop J. Michael Miller released the following statement about the wildfire destruction and damage in Fort McMurray, Alta.

VANCOUarchbishop2VER (May 10, 2016) – With the faithful of the Archdiocese of Vancouver, I offer my heartfelt prayers for the people of Fort McMurray, Alta., during their time of crisis. May God bless them and protect them through this ordeal.

I invite those who wish to help in a material way to join me in making a donation to the Canadian Red Cross. The Government of Canada has committed to matching contributions to the Red Cross, and donations can be made online at www.redcross.ca.

For those who would like to directly assist the Catholic community of Fort McMurray, St. Paul Bishop Paul Terrio has confirmed that half of contributions will go to assisting local Catholic parishes and parishioners, while the other half will be forwarded to the Fort McMurray Ministerial Association for ecumenical assistance to those who have lost homes and jobs.
